I began The Smelting Process in 2009 with the hopes of adding a few lines to that single book (the only one that has ever been written & that is still being written) by offering an online anthology of poetry, most of which, that I have translated. My goal has been to make foreign language poetry accessible to an anglophone audience & to shed light on the translation process.
Much like a poem in translation, this project is constantly undergoing changes in structure as well as in content. The most recent change came in the fall of 2010, when it became clear to me that the political and polemical discourse (largely in the United States) was increasingly couching itself in the spectacle of events without penetrating the more pressing and relevant issues. This has given rise to intermittent proses that address elements of current cultural events that are not receiving due attention – including those of the social, political and literary spheres.
